Frequently asked questions
What’s the difference between bone china and porcelain?
Bone china contains at least 30% bone ash, which makes it thin, light and softly translucent while staying strong and chip resistant. Porcelain is denser and opaque. Each set lists its exact material under Materials & finish.
Can I put the cups in the dishwasher or microwave?
We recommend hand washing, especially for gold or platinum trims, as detergents and heat wear away the decoration. Pieces with metallic trim must never go in the microwave, because the metal can spark.
Can I pour boiling water straight into the cups?
Avoid sudden temperature changes. Warm the cup first with hot tap water before pouring freshly boiled tea, and never move a cup from the fridge straight to hot liquid.
How do I remove tea stains?
Use a soft, non-abrasive cleaner; a gentle paste of baking soda and water works well. Avoid scouring pads, which scratch the glaze and trims.
How should I store the set?
Place a soft liner or napkin between stacked saucers and avoid nesting cups inside each other, to protect the glaze and any gilded rims.
